Distance Education set to begin on April 19

publier : 14 avril 2021

Dear Parents,

Following Monday’s announcement by the Ontario government, please be advised that all Csc Providence schools will move to teacher-led remote learning upon return from the spring break.

As such, all JK-12 students will participate in remote learning from April 19th, until further notice. To allow for a smooth transition to online learning for elementary school students (JK to Grade 8), the learning activities planned for this first virtual day will be offered in asynchronous mode. These activities will be made available to students using the Google Classroom platform or another board-approved online platform.   Synchronous teaching will start on Tuesday, April 20th.  However, students who were taking their courses online prior to Monday’s announcement will continue their learning in this mode on Monday, April 19th.

We wish to remind parents that all secondary school students (Grade 9 to 12) will begin the fourth quadmester on April 20th, as per the school year calendar. Please note however that the online courses of the French-Language Virtual Learning Consortium of Ontario (CAVFLO) will continue as scheduled on April 19th, 2021.

Computer equipment for distance learning

Computer equipment was distributed to students prior to spring break. Families who are in need of a device for their child to continue his/her learning and who do not currently have one in their possession can still email an equipment request to their school administration.

If you have any connection issues or technical problems with your child's laptop, you can complete this form to request assistance from the Information Technology Department.

Childcare services and programs

Before school childcare services will remain open and will continue to accommodate children as of April 19th. However, before and after school childcare services for school-age children are suspended until further notice.

Special needs students

Students with special needs will be able to continue their distance learning while still having access to the support they normally receive from professionals.

Students participating in Life Learning and Social Integration Program (Programme AVIS)

At the elementary level, students from JK to Grade 8 enrolled in the Life Learning and Social Integration Program (Programme AVIS) will receive in-person support starting April 19th, based on their needs, as identified by the administration, and will be able to benefit from accommodations that cannot be offered remotely.

At the secondary level, schools will only be welcoming Grade 9 to 12 students enrolled in the Life Learning and Social Integration Program (Programme AVIS) from April 20th. There will be no in-school or online courses offered on April 19th due to the planning and organization day scheduled in the school year calendar.

The schools will provide more details to families with special needs children.

Please be assured that the Conseil scolaire catholique Providence continues to work hard to ensure the safety and security of your child/children and their learning experience.

Our gratitude goes out to all parents for the ongoing work, contributions and commitments that you have made to ensure that the school will be able to resume in-person learning under the safest possible conditions.

Sincerely,

Joseph Picard
